Translations & Languages

Multi-Language Support

Screenshot Generator includes built-in support for 20+ languages. Create translations for your text layers once, and they're automatically available for all your screenshots.

Getting Started with Languages

1. Set Project Languages

In your project, click the "Languages" link in the header. Select which languages your project should support. You'll see a default language (English by default).

2. Add Languages

Click "Add Language" and select from 20+ supported languages including Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified & Traditional), Arabic, and many more.

3. Set Default Language

Choose which language is the default. This is the language text layers are initially edited in.

Translating Text

Quick Preview

Use the "Preview" dropdown in the header to switch between languages and see your screenshots in different languages instantly.

Editing Translations

When you're viewing in a non-default language and edit a text layer, your changes are saved as a translation—the default language text stays unchanged.

Translations Page

Click "Translations" in the header to see a table of all text layers and their translations across all languages. Edit translations directly in the table.

Per-Language Text Highlights

Text highlights (colored words within a text layer) are stored per language. When you're previewing a language and apply a highlight, it's saved for that language only—the default language's highlights stay unchanged.

If a language has no highlights of its own, the default language's highlight ranges are reused, so your highlights carry over automatically. Because word positions differ between languages, review each language and adjust highlights where needed—doing so creates language-specific highlights. See Working with Layers for how to apply highlights.

Best Practices

  • • Use the Preview Dropdown: Switch between languages to see how your design looks with different text lengths
  • • Text Layout: Use text layer layout options (fit-to-box, wrap, fixed) to handle varying text lengths
  • • Consistency: Keep terminology consistent across screenshots—use the Translations page to check
  • • Professional Translations: Consider using professional translators for app store listings—this tool is great for design, not linguistic accuracy
  • • Device Filtering: Use the device filter when managing translations to focus on one device type at a time

Exporting Multilingual Screenshots

Use the Export Screenshots dialog to select any combination of languages. Each selected language is exported into its own folder inside the ZIP, so a single export can include all of your localizations. Layers without a translation for a language fall back to the default language text.
